User-Centered Design: Keeping It Real

ABOUT THE DISCUSSION
As design professionals, we strive to create great products and great experiences, both physical and virtual, for the general public or niche markets. But many times the cynic would say most of the time we miss the mark. The world is full of things that are difficult and frustrating to use. And that's because designers make assumptions about how users think and do things.

Great design is user-centric design.

User-centered design (UCD) is an approach that places the user at the center of the design process from the beginning. By understanding real people's needs and behaviors during the conception and refinement of a design, we can ensure that a new product succeeds.

This discussion will include perspectives on user-centered design from professionals who create experiences in the fields of architecture, interactive design, and product design. Each panelist will present examples and strategies relevant to practitioners of user-centric design in any discipline.

Those interested in architecture, graphic design, human factors, information architecture, interaction design, product design, usability, and user experience will find the discussion highly informative and challenging.
